Some Stones Need Not Be Turned

I wrote this in September 2023.

Song included.

As I walk the path,

I am drawn to a stone , lying on the edge.

It holds my interest.

I reach down to retrieve it.

I stop.

Draw back my hand;

admiring it as I do.

I remembered this stone.

I knew this stone ….

need not be turned.

This was re- written November 26, 2025.

Music was put to it. Long version.

Verse 1
As I walk the path,
Morning dust beneath my feet,
I see a stone beside the trail,
Calling softly out to me.
Something in its quiet shape
Feels like a memory,
Like something I once carried
But finally set free.
Pre-Chorus
I reach down slow…
But my heartbeat starts to churn.
Something whispers in my chest:
Some stones ain’t meant to turn.
Chorus
Some stones need not be turned,
Some lessons don’t need learning.
Some roads are meant for walking,
Not circles of returning.
Not every truth needs digging,
Not every page must burn.
Some things are better left in peace—
Some stones need not be turned.
Verse 2
It holds my interest still,
Like an echo from the past,
A shadow of an old regret
I thought I’d shed at last.
My hand hovers above it,
And my breath begins to rise—
I’ve carried many heavy things
But this one I survived.
Pre-Chorus
I step back slow…
Let the lesson re-confirm.
My spirit knows the price you pay
When you turn the wrong stone turned.
Chorus
Some stones need not be turned,
Some wounds don’t need reopening.
Some doors should stay behind you,
No matter what they’re holding.
Not every answer saves you,
Not every bridge deserves return.
Some things are better left untouched—
Some stones need not be turned.
Bridge
I’ve lifted up my share of pain,
I’ve sifted through the dirt

But not every buried moment
Needs to rise and do its hurt.
Sometimes wisdom’s knowing
When to walk on by,
And leave the past beneath you
Like a cloud that doesn’t cry.
Final Chorus
Some stones need not be turned,
Some peace is slowly earned.
Some love is best remembered,
Not dug up or returned.
And as I walk this winding road,
One truth is clear and firm:
What’s meant to stay will stay that way—
Some stones need not be turned
